What happened when our photographers went over to get some shots...
Meet Kaya. Or Orbit. Or Orbit ZA. Or Uncle. We think he might be hiding from Interpol considering all those aliases and we believe that was confirmed when he didn’t forward a picture to us. So we sent our team of photographers over to him and things got a little out of hand… Let that be a lesson to you all. Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time. And don’t piss off zombies.
Go ahead. Introduce yourself. Don’t be shy.
My name is Kaya and my nicknames are orbit, orbit za and Uncle. I’m 27 and live in Johannesburg. I have been gaming almost my entire life and I’m a fan of just about every genre. I consider myself a great all rounder with loads of experience.
What’s you platform of choice? Why?
I have a PS3, Xbox and PC but if I was forced to choose, it would be the PC. There is just so much more freedom and customization available on PC. You lose the convenience and relatively low cost, but I’ve always loved PC gaming.
Can you remember the first time you ‘gamed’?
This is a tough question because my memory for specific details is hazy. I remember watching my brother playing Space Quest and Kings Quest. My own experience was probably first on the NES, possibly Excite Bike.
How long have you been gaming?
Since I was about 4 or 5 years old!
When do you think you’ll stop gaming?
In short, I’ll never stop gaming. I have been gaming for most of my life and its part of who I am. Games are becoming more advanced than ever, if anything, there are fantastic reasons to play even more.
Are you a serious gamer? Or do you enjoy a laugh?
I am serious about enjoying gaming. I used to play seriously and enter competitions but now its all about having fun and enjoying my experience.
Singleplayer or multiplayer?
Both! Some games are great singleplayer and some are only great as multiplayer. To consider myself complete, I need both of these.
Is playing online important to you?
I think it depends on the game. Playing with friends is probably more important than playing online however these days these two go hand in hand.
Favourite game currently?
My multiplayer game of choice is still Diablo 3 and my singleplayer game of choice is Batman: Arkham City. I have a little bit of a backlog that I am in the process of working through.
Do you have any hobbies outside of gaming? What?
Sadly I do, its hard to find time to fit them all in. I love exercising, reading books & comics, films, music, TV series, writing and sport. I need more time, less sleep or both!
You’re stranded on a desert island and a genie grants you five items. Name them:
A game: Only one game?! Oh the humanity! Well I know they haven’t come out yet, but I am hoping for big things. GTA V or Guild Wars 2.
A CD: A mix CD of all my best tracks.
A movie or TV series: My movie of choice would be the Lord of the Rings extended DVD trilogy.
An organic life form: The organic life form would have to be my girlfriend and I better get brownie points for saying so!
Something edible or drinkable: I would not survive on a desert island without an unlimited supply of pizza. Besides once I have eaten enough I could build a raft and escape using all the cardboard boxes they come in!
What’s the most embarrassing or worst game you’ve ever bought or received as a gift?
One of the worst games I’ve ever bought was Brutal Legend. Call me crazy but I hated it with a passion.
If you were a game designer, describe your ultimate game design.
A large open world dynamic game filled with choices, classes, character selection and endless possibilities. Added to this would be built in modes and filters such as zombie apocalypse, alien invasion and fairy mode, to name a few. Essentially all my favourite games crammed into one!
The zombie apocalypse has happened. You’re facing down a ravenous zombie horde (which may or may not include members of ZG in bikinis). What weapon do you grab?
Without question a Samurai sword. It never runs out of ammo and is bad ass.
In the aforementioned zombie apocalypse you humans are all toast. Become a turncoat and assist the superior zombies or stay with the soon to be wiped out human resistance?
The winning side, so whichever side I chose. Probably humans because when I save humanity statues will be made of me, they will make me supreme emperor and grant me anything my heart desires. People are so easy to manipulate, zombies not so much.
Thanks for taking the time to answer our silly questions. What game are you off to play now that you’re done?
My absolute pleasure! I will be playing London 2012, SEGA’s Olympics game. It’s surprisingly more fun than you would think!
