Hey look, it’s the last weekend in February! What better way to celebrate than sitting in a dark room for a couple of hours while the Hollywood starlets entertain you. Oh, and vodka, that’s always good. But who says you can’t do both?
Isn’t virginity a pesky thing? Here’s another film about someone desperate to lose theirs, only this time the man in question is 38 year old Mark, who has polio and uses an iron lung. So he contacts a professional sex surrogate to help him out, under the watchful eye of his therapist and priest. Don’t expect the usual raunchy humour that goes with this subject matter. John Hawkes, Helen Hunt and William H Macy feature.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters
That sweet little fairy tale about a couple of kids who happen upon a delicious cottage inhabited by an old witch who finds them equally as tasty is given an overhaul. All grown up, the pair are now bounty hunters hell bent on tracking and putting an end to witches. As they go about dispatching hags they come closer to finding out more about their own past.
This one is being billed as the “next Twilight”. We’ll have to wait and see, but it looks like it could very well scratch an itch or two for the forlorn Twi-hards out there. This time around is a frustrated young man who falls for a mysterious girl with secrets. Magic, romance and teen angst are the order of the day.
Zombie Terri’s Pick
I’m almost ashamed to tell you how much I’ve been looking forward to Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Especially now that I’ve read some in the international reviews. But screw it – I’m still excited. Renner is rather dishy and I love the idea of those little abandoned kids turning their past into a kick-ass future. Also, I’m keen to see how they’ve imagined the witch’s tempting cottage.
