Just three films opening this week, but they seem to cover all the bases: thriller, romance, adventure and murder for hire. Enjoy!
Despicable Me 2
Ah, Gru and (most importantly) his minions are back for another round of fun. Since Gru is a reformed baddie, this time they’re helping the Anti-Villain League track down a crook. Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig lend their voices to the big screen yet again.
Die Laaste Tango
Deon Meyer’s latest thriller hits the big screen this week. A disgraced cop hiding out in a small Karoo town decides to help a young woman fulfill her last wish before she dies – to dance the tango. But things aren’t going to be that simple, with sinister shadows advancing.
Matthew McConaughey plays a police detective who moonlights as a hit-man in this crime thriller. A young drug dealer hatches a plan to have his mother killed so he can collect on her life insurance, but his only way to ensure it all works out according to plan is to offer his sister as assurance that he’ll pay the hit-man’s fee.
Zombie Terri’s Pick
I’m definitely keen to see a home-grown thriller this week, so my money’s going to Die Laaste Tango. Also, I’m a huge fan of Louw Venter and Rob van Vuuren and I love seeing them tackle very different roles from Corne and Twakkie. I’m also becoming more and more impressed with the thrillers our local filmmakers are giving us. I have a suspicion this is going to be great.
