This week offers a couple of gems for SF fans. And there’s also a little something for those looks for comedy and drama.
Will and Jaden Smith are back on the big screen as a father and son team in this film set in the future. Kitai and his father Cypher crash land on Earth a thousand years after humans have left the planet. Badly injured, Cypher must rely on his son to help them survive.
A Haunted House
The horror genre gets the spoof treatment in this film co-written by Marlon Wayans. It’s hasn’t had terribly good reviews so far, but if you’re a fan of the cheesy, you may enjoy it. A couple move into a new home, but realise that there’s also a demon hanging around.
Star Trek Into Darkness
JJ Abrams takes the helm in the next film of the franchise. This time the enemy is in their midst and the crew of the Enterprise must band together to put an end to the threat. The cast includes Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana.
Stand Up Guys
Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin… need I say more? Reunited after almost three decades, a bunch of old crooks get their gang back together. It’s a wild night of adventure, which one of them isn’t meant to survive.
Fly Me to the Moon
This French film with English subtitles is the story of a woman who is keen to marry her boyfriend, but since every first marriage in her family tends to end in divorce, she decides to find a hapless stranger to get her first marriage out of the way, leaving her free to find happiness with her man.
Zombie Terri’s Pick
It’s been hammered a bit by the critics, but I’m quite keen to see After Earth. I’ve been catching up on some Fresh Prince and it’s great to see how far Will Smith has come. I’m certain Jaden will come into his own eventually as he gets older.
