F1 2009 is the first FORMULA ONE™ game from Codemasters®. It will feature all the official drivers, teams and circuits from the 2009 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™. Codemasters® are new to F1, but they do have award-winning racing games, Dirt and Grid being their most acclaimed. The publishers gained exclusive worldwide agreement with Formula One Administration Limited and therefore have the fully licensed rights to all things F1 to use in their upcoming title.
I received a forwarded advert from the official F1 online store advertising the game for both the Wii and PSP but not the Xbox 360 or PS3. So obviously a little concerned and wanting to see if this was just an elaborate plan the F1 Official site thought of to raise my blood pressure, or just a mistake. So I called NuMetro (Codemasters local distributors) to find out and I can now confirm that the people from the F1 Official site probably don’t know or care who I am, and that Codemasters have decided to release the Wii and PSP version in November 2009 while PS3 and 360 owners will have to wait until around May next year. Then the 2010 season title will follow the same release strategy. I’m sure the good people at Codemasters know what they doing but “for crying out loud, how long are you going to make me wait for a damn F1 game?”
The problem with F1 is that a game without the licenses and a blue ‘Ferraro’ just wont do. It’s all or nothing when it comes to the pinnacle of motorsport, and whether the latest F1 game is good or bad, fanatics will buy it without thinking twice, just to see for ourselves at least. So basically any other developer can bring out a high-speed single-seater racing game and I just don’t care… I want the FORMULA ONE™ game!
