Eleven Games To Buy In The Second Half Of 2010

two-thumbs-up

We have had some real stunners to keep us busy in the first half, with the World Cup 2010 ending we need to get over the ‘post-wc-blues’ and get back to gaming. So don’t say that Zombiegamer doesn’t look out for you, we have compiled a list of what not to miss as we go into the second half of the year.

Mafia II

mafia2

A 2kGames sandbox game… do I really need to say more?

It takes on the epically interesting story of the ‘mafia’. The graphics look absolutely stunning, characters look memorable, the action looks thrilling and I have no doubt that this will be the immersive gangster experience that we have been promised.

Look out for Mafia II in August.

Driver: San Fransisco

Driver: San Fransisco promises to go back to its roots. This is a good thing, the original was an absolute blast – hours of movie ‘car-chase’ like action. Unfortunately the series went from good to bad, but fortunately for us Ubisoft Reflections were obviously aware of this and therefore hope to capture all that was great about the original. I am still a little nervous about this one but from the previews I have read it does look promising.

Driver: San Fransisco hits stores in September.

Kane and Lynch Dog Days

The original was a love/hate game. It layed a great platform down but suffered from iffy controls and a sticky cover system… some loved it others not so much. I have tried the demo and I am sooo looking forward to the full title. The controls may still not be the most fluid but they work well enough. The game’s visuals are ‘you-tube’ inspired and give you an immersive ‘live footage’ footage action-packed feel. I would highly recommend this one from my findings so far.

Look out for Kane and Lynch: Dog Days in September.

NBA2k11

Popping this one on the list is more self-serving than anything else, but being a basketball fan I cannot compile a list of games to buy without adding the best basketball series’ latest installment that the cover is graced by none other that the greatest basketball player ever – Michael Jordan. The 2K series offers a technical sim like basketball game that has won favour with the majority of basketball fans over its rivals.

Driver: San Fransisco will be availble for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Release date TBA.

Fifa 11

I know we are promised big improvement year in year out with the two football giants. And majority of the time we only get tweaks as apposed to major steps forward. However I have been following both Pro Evolution Soccer and Fifa’s upcoming titles and I suspect Fifa is going to make the popularity gap even bigger than it already has over its rival. Fifa 11 will offer some great customisation tricks including customisable fan chants. The passing system is also reportadly changed and will be more sim than the ‘ping-pong’ way it was always before.

I reckon this will adifferent Fifa experience and should be on every footie fan’s list in October. Fifa 11 is a multi-platform title.

F1 2010

F1 2010_01

I know I know, F1 games have notoriously been a hit and miss with the console. More arcade than sim and has never really won the Formula 1 world truly over. Then to add the series was taken by Codmasters who are using the GRID engine which is one of my least favourite racing games of all time. However Lazygamer got their hands on it at E3 and they say its “phenomenal.”

Besides if you are a Formula 1 fan, can you really afford not to find out for yourself?

F1 2010 will launch in Septmeber on Playstation 3 and for the first time on Xbox 360 to.

Medal of  honor

Electronic Arts are looking to take a chunck out of the Call of Duty online following. From the visuals it looks the part and from what has already been reported, it looks like the franchise could just do so. You play in a special operations Tier 1 command in a modern day battlefield in Afghanistan.

A strong storyline, in a strong setting from a strong franchise. We will see if it turns out to be all that is promised in October. Medal of Honor will be available for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

Call of Duty: Black Ops

COD_Black Ops

It is a familiar franchise even under Activion’s other developer team – Treyarch. We are deployed into the elite Blacks Ops to take battle it out in the most extreme conditions. You can expect the usual superior audio and visual experience and some of the most celebrated controls. But this franchise really isn’t about its singleplayer experience now is it. It is all about the massive online following that the long standing franchise is known for.

The latest Call of Duty… isn’t it always a must. Set for a November release and it will be a multi-platform title.

Fallout New Vegas

fallout-new-vegas

A title that needs no description or review. Fans know what to expect from one of the legendary rpg franchises. Question is can it out do the epic Fallout 3? Set in the namesake Vegas but as expected it is a post-apocolyptic torn Vegas.

This Bethesda rpg will be available for both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in October.

Fable III

Fable 3 Screen

The Fable series is Lionhead’s crown jewel. It has been a massive success and absolutely loved my rpg lovers. Some big names have been lined up for this third instalment including John Cleese wou as the Butler called Jasper, Stephen Fry will be the voice the character of Reaver.

Fable III remains a Microsoft exclusive and should be release locally late October/ early November.

Gran Turismo 5

gt5mitsi

The fifth edition of the Gran Turismo racing simulator series. Developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Gran Turismo 5 is set to feature 20 total track locations, with 70 variations and an amazing 1000 cars.

Can the Sony exclusive take on the mighty Forza 3, we will see in the last quarter of the year.

Some other titles that deserve mentioning are Dead Rising 2, Brink, True Crime, R.U.S.E, F.E.A.R 3, Saints Row 3, Vanquish, Max Payne 3, Assassins Creed: Brotherhood, Crysis 2 and more. From the award winning Bethesda best know for their rpg IP’s this is not to be missed.
