GameInformer mag has revealed the first details for the upcoming Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, which the mag says is set 200 years after Oblivion. The rpg takes place in a region north of the Imperial City – Skyrim – where Dragon’s are returning to the world. You play as ‘Dragonborn’ and it is you and your mentor’s mission to defeat the wicked dragon god.
The ‘levelling’ aspect [which is always a main feature in a rpg] looks to be heavily revamped. In Skyrim you no longer opt for a class at the start of the game, instead players are granted extra points for either health, magic or stamina upon levelling up. Skyrim will feature 18 skills and each level is also hinted to gift perks, which are said to be similar to abilities in Fallout 3.
Bethesda say dialogue exchanges will look more natural than with their rpg’s of the past, with AI characters moving around a bit and carrying on with their business if you’ve interrupted them at work. Bethesda also say quests are much more dynamic now than those of Oblivion, plus determined on your character choices and player actions.
Combat is also said to be improved with more tactical assignment of weapon hands (for magic, shields or even dual wielding) and extra care put on how each weapons works and feels.
Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is scheduled for a late 2011 release.
