imageIt seems as though new-gen consoles could implement Steam-like early access programs, if the latest reports are anything to go by.

Last week SCE America vice president Adam Boyes says Sony is looking to implement a program for the PlayStation Network in the future that would give players access to games that are still in development.

“That’s one of the massive conversations we have internally,” he explained.

Develop now report [via MCV] that ID@Xbox’s Chris Charla says developers are also calling for an ‘Early Access’ program for the Xbox One.

Charla says this is a talking point at Xbox as well.

“It’s something developers have been asking for, and we are listening really closely to developers, but I don’t have anything to announce on that right now,” he said.

“There’s a lot of heavy deep thinkers, experts, PhDs working on these problems at Xbox every day.”

For those of you that aren’t familiar with Steam’s Early Access program – it allows developers to publish early builds and fund their games whilst the games are still in development. It is a massively popular program with Steam users, so we’re sure something similar would be welcome to our latest consoles.
