E3 2013 | EA Conference Round-up

EA decided to take a risk and go casual with their first game shown off – Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare. Popcap is bringing  a 4-player co-operative survival mode to the game. Still doesn’t excuse all the zombie killing.

Oh, and Peggle 2 is coming.

Titanfall can be shown again as far as we care. It’s awesome. EA clearly agree.

EA have all new software engines for all new consoles which they have been working on for quite some time. They’re called Frostbite 3 and Ignite and you’ve probably heard of them before.

And then a wake up moment. DICE is working on a new Star Wars Battlefront. Yes! And that’s all.

There’s also Need for Speed Rivals – which “starts in singleplayer, ends in multiplayer” – and a Need for Speed movie. Almost lost me…

Woah. First footage from Dragon Age Inquisition. Arrives “Fall 2014”.

EA Sports. It’s in the game.

NBA Live 14 features  ‘bounce tech’ to improve dribbling… and… stopped listening… falling asleep… missed some physics stuff. Apparently a new experience every time you pick up a controller. They update the game all the time in other words.

Madden 25. Players think “intelligently”. Lots of blah-blah-blah about realism. Out this Fall.

FIFA 14. Drake on stage. Dance you bugger. Or sing. Just stop talking. Ah. Ignite brings the stadium alive. Players have ‘pro instincts’. 100s of new skills and, well, it’s lots of new things for next-gen.

UFC. Replete with announcer. Hope someone beats someone up now. And more AI talk – or MMAI. Huh-huh. The “best fight game ever made” arrives next Spring (or Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere).

And shooting at last. Battlefield 4 features Commander Mode, which is part of the “connected Battlefield 4 experience”. The game features 64-player multiplayer and collapsing buildings.

And then, the biggest cheer of the EA conference for… Mirror’s Edge 2. Coming… when it’s ready. So they’re just teasing and trolling a little. Footage shown is all “in-game” apparently.

So, bypassing the American sports games, a pretty good showing from EA. Some strong titles coming soon.

We’ll be posting all the videos in another article.
