E3 2012: Ubisoft Conference Round-up

Well, one has to say that the Ubisoft briefing certainly started off with the highest energy levels of the evening so far.  Kicking off with Just Dance 4, cheerleaders, Flo Rida and Aisha Tyler certainly piqued the interest.

And then bam!  Far Cry 3.  Gorgeous graphics.  Insanity.  Killing.  Drugs.  Not a game for your children clearly.

Sam’s back.  As I may have mentioned before.  Michael Ironside is back too.  He looks completely ready to kick bad guy butt again in Splinter Cell Blacklist.

If you were waiting to get into the shoes of the Avengers, you can wait no longer – Ubisoft confirmed Avengers Battle for Earth coming to Xbox 360 Kinect and Wii U.

Ubisoft then focused on their new favourite toy coming to the market – the Wii U.  No harm in that as Rayman Legends looks decent enough – if you’re into that sort of thing.  There are plenty of games gaming from Ubisoft to the Nintendo console (including Assassin’s Creed III) but the one that really stuck out is Wii U exclusive ZombiU.  Great trailer for the zombie apocalypse game set in the UK.  Great trailer that reminds me a little of Dead Island…

The “revolution” that is Assassin’s Creed III made its presence felt with a not unwelcome extended stay.  The game will feature a new 4 vs 4 mode called Domination (like King of the Hill).  Gameplay was in abundance and clearly Connor is awesome.  The game is awesome.  Can we have awesome now.  Please?

The game specifically developed for the esports sector Shootmania – a third person team-based game – got tested by a three man versus three woman match up.  The game is Ubisoft’s attempt to prove it’s serious about competitive gaming and will have a free-to-play model – a model which includes Ghost Recon Online.

Ubisoft Montreal’s new game Watch Dogs looks like a cross between TV Series ‘Person of Interest’, Splinter Cell and GTA.  Digital footprints, technology, guns and a story to boot.  It looks fresh.  It looks brilliant.  And it has been confirmed to be coming to this generation of consoles and PC.

Ubisoft appears to have the strongest line-up announced yet and may just have stolen the show – or at least set the bar for the others to achieve.
