Community Events in SA this long weekend

It’s a long weekend this coming weekend – in case you didn’t know.  For many it may well be a five day weekend if you are lucky enough to have Monday off.  What on earth are you going to do with yourself for around 120 hours?  House work?

Thankfully, there are plenty of activities happening this weekend – if you’re a gamer.  Otherwise, it will have to be house work.

Starting on Thursday night (26 April), 2upGamers and JHBGamers will be hosting the Prototype 2 launch parties in Cape Town and Johannesburg respectively.  The events will run concurrently with the game’s local distributor popping in to say hi via the wonders of the internet.  Dress up as your preferred antagonist from either of the two games and you could win a prize.

The Cape Town party is at Rygersdal Sports Club in Rondebosch and the Johannesburg party will happen at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosebank.  Entry is free if you’ve registered – however, rumour has it the events have filled up fast and registration may well have closed already…

If beating people to a bloody pulp is more your thing, then Friday and Saturday at the Settlers High School in Bellville (Cape Town) will be the place to be.  Cape Town Showdown will be hosting ‘Third Strike’.  Over the two days of punching, kicking and all out brutality, you can expect to enjoy “friendly” games of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (2012), Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion, The King of Fighters XIII, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Soul Calibur V and Street Fighter x Tekken.  Registrations have already closed, but there’s no excuse not to stop in and watch as a good beating is handed out.

Also taking two days of the weekend (Friday and Saturday) – but this time even further north than Cape Town’s Northern Suburbs – is the dAZLAN LAN.  Taking place at 290 Friederiche Street, Wierdapark, Centurion.  Bookings can be made on their website.  The event will cater for COD4 MW, Dota, Counter Strike Source and DC++.

Staying in Gauteng, but only taking up your Saturday is the Ground Zero LAN.  Bring along DotA, HoN, Left For Dead 1 & 2, Call of Duty 5, Call of Duty Modern Warfare and others to Lala Palm Hall at the Klipriviersberg Recreational Center.

Finally – and by no means least – is the MainGaming Interactive Challenge.  Happening on Saturday at Cresta Shopping Centre, it is sure to be a real battle of Modern Warfare 3 heavyweights.  So it’s a good thing I can’t make it.  Well, there’s no zombies in Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty is there?

You can get all the details by following the event links above or even clicking the event in our calendar or in our sidebar.  If we missed your event this weekend, it’s only because we didn’t know about it, so don’t be afraid to let us know about your upcoming events.
