Codemasters’ CEO suggests next Operation Flashpoint will be strong

In an interview with GamesIndustryBiz, Codemasters’ CEO, Rod Cousen discussed the EGO game engine used in F1 2010 and other Codemasters titles including Operation Flashpoint.

Cousen stated that the EGO engine is a proven technology across multiple genres, and that he believes that, “Flashpoint gets stronger with each rendition,” and that Codemasters will “prove that when we ship the next version next year.”

When discussing the crowded FPS genre and the fact that titles like Flashpoint and Medal of Honor are trailing the leaders, Cousen says, ” If you’re in the top spot, nothing is forever. Hanging on to it isn’t easy – so anyone that just takes that as a given is misguided; because there’s an awful lot of work done by these companies.”

“When they’re down, and they’re a wounded animal, they’re never more dangerous. I think the version of Medal of Honor that’s gone out is not how you should judge EA; judge it when they’ve had another two or three goes at it,” said Cousen.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River, the next title from the series, will be available in the second quarter of 2011 and will be available for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.
