Bethesda Using Fallout Tech For New Title Rumoured To Be Next Elder Scrolls

The latest news from Bethesda is that the publishers are working on two new titles. Todd Howard of Bethesda Softworks revealed this at QuakeCon in an interview with Eurogamer and that he is just starting up one while they’ve yet to finish the first.

The interest bit is that this mystery title will be based on Fallout 3 tech, which cannot be anything but a great thing. Howard told Eurogamer: “I spend a lot of my time on the game that’s in pre-production, but the new game that’s percolating takes the most of my time,” said Todd Howard. That’s him confirming he’s split between their current in the works title and this new creation that’s just starting.

It sounds like it won’t even be that long before an announcement as Howard explained that “from when you first hear about it to when it’s out will be the shortest it’s been for us,” and that the game is pretty far along.

Lastly it should be a big title that Bethesda is clearly very serious about. Howard also said that when they show it, they want to show a lot, because there’s a lot of game there to play right now. Howard said that he would be comfortable revealing the game now if needed but they just decided for they wouldn’t just yet. He explained: ” The project head wouldn’t be coaxed into revealing game details – thought to be a new Elder Scrolls title.”

So the title will use the Fallout 3 engine tech although it has been greatly modified. “Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that,” he said and continued “I can say it is on the existing platforms, which we’re really happy with. You almost feel like you have a new console when you see the game.”

Intrigued, I am.
