The ‘Team of South Africans’ playing in the PlayStation 3 World Nations Cup have made the last 16 of the tournament.
The team headed in to their final match of the group stages against Team Ukraine needing the win to ensure that they didn’t need to rely on other teams to lose. And the team from South Africa didn’t disappoint at all. In a match which saw SA dominate, the team won all three maps and all the rounds to take the match 6-0 overall.
The feat is one to take real pride in, as the team was only pulled together a week before the tournament kicked off. In the time they have played, they’ve had to contend with high pings against their international opponents, but this didn’t stop the team from beating defending champions France in their second match of the tournament. The SA team lost to the UK and the Netherlands, but grabbed a win against Switzerland (after the tournament admins found the Swiss to have exploited a glitch) and now the Ukraine to ensure their place in the knockouts.
The South Africans now face Italy in the knockout stages, and the team does so on an upward momentum. We wish the team all the best – we’re sure you will make SA proud.
