Avatar: Movie and Game Impressions

by Marius ‘Zenfire’ Hamman

So this past weekend I went to go see the sneak preview for the upcoming James Cameron creation Avatar.  I am unsure if I have the word in my limited vocabulary to accurately describe how amazing the experience was. We had the Real3D experience brought to us by Nu Metro which made an already visually stunning Avatar even more so.

We were only shown a few scenes from the movie to get a feel for what it will be about and the stunning CGI that is used.  As I mentioned before, to say that what I saw looked amazing would not be doing it justice, the amount of detail is mind boggling. I am sure most fans already have an idea of what the storyline of the movie is but for those who don’t, the movie revolves around Jake who is a former marine from Earth that was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down.  Jake is selected to participate in the Avatar program, which will enable him to walk. The participants get taken too Pandora, a lush jungle-covered extraterrestrial moon filled with incredible life forms. This moon makes an absolutely stunning setting for what I think will be one of the top grossing movies of the year, and I for one cannot wait to see it and I am sure I am not alone in this sentiment.

Avatar the movie and Avatar the game, which I am sure many of our readers will also want too know about, were created alongside each-other and from what I am told a lot of cross pollination occurred because of this, which I think can only yield some good results.  For example a lot of the jungles are rendered using technologies provide by Ubisoft.  The game is not based on events in the movie from what I have been told and apparently take a different approach by telling some stories within the universe of the movie, almost like they did with Star Wars the Clone Wars cartoons. I have watched some footage from the game and it looks quite promising.  All I know is if it is even nearly as good as the movie it will be awesome.
