Ubisoft will release PS3 exclusive DLC for Assassin’s Creed 3 and Far Cry 3, Sony has confirmed.

The DLC was not detailed, but SCEA boss Jack Tretton said that the Assassin’s Creed 3 content would be available on the game’s launch in late October.  Far Cry 3 is set for release in early September.

If you missed it elsewhere, it has also been confirmed that Assassin’s Creed 3 features a new 4 vs. 4 mode called Domination – loosely based on King of the Hill style gameplay.  Some environments in the game will be able to kill your opponents.  There will – of course – be new maps and characters to romp about in and with.  From CVG:

In Domination two teams of four fight for control over three areas on a map. Once an area is captured, you earn points for ‘owning’ that spot. Holding zones is likely to be tricky, because you’ll be hunted by an unknown assassin (or two) just like in Brotherhood and Revelations.

There will of course be loads of new maps and characters, each of which will be faithful to the new setting and time period. The first map to be shown is called The Northwest Passage, which includes an ice-bound boat to explore. There are also three confirmed characters (with loads more to be revealed) called The Commander, The Carpenter and The Lady Maverick.

Another new feature is the ability to use the environment in your kills. We haven’t seen it in action, and the press literature is vague, but it seems like you’ll be able to either collapse walls on enemies (for example) or somehow integrate walls into your kill animation for even more spectacular murder. It’s also likely that the new cover system from the single player will appear in online too. We know that the dynamic weather will feature in multiplayer maps – can’t wait to see how tense a fog-covered session will be.

Other new info includes the introduction of a third active ability slot, several new weapons including the poison dart, which lets you perform delayed kills, and the merging of the ‘Kill/Stun’ abilities onto a single button. There’s a new perk called ‘Unstoppable’ which will allow you to run through chasebreakers and dense crowds.

Far Cry 3 will also add a new four player co-op mode (four player online and two-player split screen) and will also allow for maps to be build in both singleplayer and multiplayer.
