IGN are citing economist and author Rafi Mohammed who told Bloomberg that he believes the Xbox One’s price is too high.

“I still think the price is too high.”

Mohammed believes Kinect should be optional to bring the Xbox One closer to Sony’s $399 price point.

With the price of Kinect, the extra cost of the Xbox One could be directly attributed to the motion controller. And considering that Kinect hasn’t exactly been overwhelmingly successful, this was always going to be a risky move.

The Kinect functionality is essential for the TV remote-like functionality the Xbox One will feature.

Mohammed also claimed that the problem could potentially, “derail Xbox One for the upcoming holiday season.”
