Amazon allegedly working on Android console

GameInformer report that “unnamed sources” say Amazon is working on an Android-based gaming console, which would take on the Ouya.

The sources say the console is supposed to release early next year in hope to tap into the Android market. It is also understood that the console will have its own proprietary controller.

Amazon has experience with Android content and believes its recognised brand would prove beneficial.

The Ouya on the other hand, while being a runaway success with Kickstarter, has yet to prove itself. It has received mediocre reviews and reports show that only 27 per cent of Ouya owners have purchased games for the device.

Nvidia has also tapped into the Android market with the (expensive) handheld Nvidia Shield console.
