Modern Warfare 2 official launch.
This date should be a holiday in the gaming world. Offices around the world would mysteriously have an abnormal amount of people on leave, working out if its a Jewish thing, a Muslim thing, maybe something more of the times- a green thing or is there some massive 24-hour bug doing the rounds?
If you are a gamer, any gamer, you will know that it is this year’s biggest release… Modern Warfare 2. There have been some big titles this year, but they will all take the second row to this one. It is no big surprise; its predecessor is considered royalty in the gaming world and played upto the night before its successors launch. We were teased by Infinity Ward with some recognizable imagery and that date. Given little bits of footage, just about every website to have anything to do with games, analysed every last bit and tried to guess what the game was going to be like.
Two weeks ago, the creative as ever Megarom (Activision Distributors) sent out mysterious letters to the press, and invited 5 lucky gamers and the press to join them for the memorable launch. We were invited to set the mood for the game in our African backyard… paintball style.
First the formalities by the PR team and a gentleman who I calculated could have been Mr. Megarom. We learnt that not only is this Megarom’s biggest game launch yet, but Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare sold around 40 000 units in its time, Modern Warfare 2 was expected to do that on Day 1!
It is also good to hear that Monster Energy Drink is the Global COD sponsor, which should be what you are drinking on your late late-night MW2 sessions.
From there we were put to battle and they even recreated some Ops from the game. The mood was set indeed and then some lunch and we were able to ask information and try the game. As if I need to tell you what it was like…
Unfortunately my day-job is really starting to get in the way of my gaming-world and duty called, so I did not get to find out who won a give away from Megarom, but I will post as soon as I find out the details.
Thank you to The Woods, Monster Energy and a huge thanks to the Megarom team- Rene, Andrew and Devon for putting up a fun day out for this massive title, and thank you for allowing some of our readers to have a chance to join in.
