MW2 – Patch on its way

MW2_Thumb

The ‘care package glitch’ from MW2 will soon be gone, however, there still seems to be no patch in sight for the slightly screwy lobby system.

The patch was sent to Microsoft on Friday for certification, and Community Manager Robert Bowling promises that the care package glitch will soon be ‘a thing of the past’.

The glitch (which just about ruins the game at times) sees players who have earned a Care Package or Emergency Air Drop killstreak reward able to call them in over and over again, meaning the map is soon flooded with Predator Missiles, Counter-UAVS, Stealth Bombers, Chopper Gunners, EMPs, AC130s, Harrier Strikes…

The list of fixes is:

  • Care Package, Emergency Airdrop, and Sentry Gun marker grenades sprint speed normalized.
  • Fix for “infinite care package” exploit.
  • Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry.
  • Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s.
  • Fixes to prevent various XP hacks.

Fable III Announcement Is Going To “Piss Us Off”

fable3box

In an interview with Gamereactor, Lionhead’s Peter Molyneux said that we can expect more details on Fable III at this week’s X10 event in San Francisco. Now what’s interesting or disturbing is that he warned that people are going to be “super pissed off”.

He told Gamereactor, “We’re making some announcements about Fable III and there’s some… Wow, there’s some very, very big things happening in Fable. Bigger than you think. And it’s going to really upset people.” He continued to say, “I’m really scared when I go out and tell people what it is they’re going to get super pissed off, they really are. But it’s the right thing to do man, I’m sure it’s the right thing to do.”

I am totally clueless on what this could be but I will keep a close eye on this story.
Any ideas on what this could be about?

[Bad Company 2] From WWII To Modern Day

bad-company2

What is it with developers and WWII?

According to the ESRB, Bad Company 2 is yet another game that will be returning to WWII. Yes, apparently we will be returning to World War II in the beginning of the game before returning modern setting.

The ESRB’s website reports that players will “conduct missions on an unnamed Japanese island during World War II and then move into the modern day through jungles, deserts, and snowy terrain.”

It does not state how WWII ties into the modern storyline nor how much of WWII there will be only,  But if I’m honest I couldn’t care less as WWII actually bores me nowadays.

[LA Noire] Coming To The Xbox 360 Too

la-noire

It has been rumored for awhile now that Team Bondi’s LA Noire would go multi-platform and now it is a reality. Confirmation came from staff of Game Informer magazine who posted comments to a cover story reveal of the magazine’s March issue.

The title was originally to be published by Sony Computer Entertainment America, but was soon transferred to Rockstar Games and maybe we have them to thank for it going multi-platform.

L.A. Noire is a “gritty crime epic” set in 1947 Los Angeles and some more news from Game Informer is that it will feature “groundbreaking facial-animation system” and it might “change the way we look at games.”

Well thank you Rockstar or whom ever made this happen. I have long been a fan of the US 1940/50 crime movies. The three-piece suites, the bold black cars, cigars and the “rat-tat-tat” sounds from the machineguns all should be great for a game. And what’s more reassuring is that Team Bondi is previously known for The Getaway.

[Alpha Protocol] Delayed and Still Troubled

alpha protocol

Obsidian’s Alpha Protocol was supposedly to be release in October 2009, and then pushed to March/April 2010 to “polish” up the game more as we learnt. It has now been announced that it will only see the light of day in the US Summer (late June) 2010 release.

According to Sega’s assistant producer Matthew Hickman, the title has seen a number of improvements over last number of months he says, an improved inventory system and better lighting effects among them. Now the bad news is that in a MTV preview we are warned that the game is still suffering from raw visuals and AI problems. This is obviously the cause of the latest delay. I just hope they sort this out as this promised to have the action that I look for in an RPG.

SEGA Tips and Tricks [Aliens vs. Predator]

avp-game

The Aliens vs. Predator multiplayer demo is winning a fair number of gamer’s interest. I have high hopes for this title on the online side of things and I suspect it will do well. SEGA got their team together and put together some tips and tricks which should enhance the Aliens vs. Predator experience. From their blog:

Alien

Playing as the Alien reminds me of long-ago, playing games like Descent – disorientation, occasional nausea, and an ultimate “ah-ha” moment as you learn to maneuver while upside-down.

First rule of playing Alien: If you’re on the ground for long, you’re dead. Marines especially will catch you quickly and you can’t withstand a frontal assault from them. Learn to cling to walls out of their line of sight, and especially learn to stay just outside of/above rooms that they’re in, where you can wait for one of their group to wander off alone. Predator play style is more difficult to counter – they tend to hop from pedestal to pedestal, scanning for easy targets. Your best bet when against predators is to keep on the move and wait for them to expose themselves, and then sneak up from behind. Even better, wait for them to take out a target, and take them out while they’re distracted with their kill.

Always use the sprint ability to close distances, or if you’re caught in front, to get away. Your best bet if you’re actually caught on the ground with an enemy is to find an object to run them around; your strong attacks are lethal enough that if you catch someone from behind you can kill them before they turn around (with a bit of luck and dodging). The other big thing: be aware of the marine’s motion trackers. They will pick you up when you move but lose you when you stop. Move in quick bursts from one spot to another. Most shooters punish you for standing still, but most shooters don’t allow you to cling to dark corners where no one can see you until it’s too late.

Zombiegamer Demo Impressions: Aliens vs Predator [Xbox 360]

avp-game

Aliens vs. Predator is an action title developed by Rebellion Studios and published by Sega. The multiplayer only demo was recently released and we downloaded the reasonable 780mb demo to try what looked to be a unique multiplayer… and unique it is.

The demo gives us one map and game mode to try out with a lobby consisting of up to 8 players. The game mode titled ‘Deathmatch’ allows you to choose between Marines, Predator or Alien classes in a free-for-all scenario. The map is very well laid out and very reminiscent of scenes from the Alien movies where the iron structures all taken over by alien hive in certain areas.

Original Xbox Games To Be Discontinued On LIVE

xbox-live1

Microsoft has announced that original Xbox consoles and games will be discontinued on the Xbox LIVE on April 15th.

Marc Whitten, General Manager, Xbox LIVE explains:

I want to start by saying this isn’t a decision we made lightly, but after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox LIVE community. There’s no greater example of the power of the Xbox LIVE community than the Halo franchise. Halo 2 has had an amazing run on LIVE, with a dedicated community more than five years after launch and well into the next generation of consoles. It has fundamentally changed the way we play video games. And while it’s difficult to see that run come to an end, the Halo franchise continues to act as the benchmark for multiplayer gaming in this generation, with Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and soon Halo: Reach on Xbox 360. To reach our aspiration, we need to make changes to the service that are incompatible with our original Xbox v1 games. We will contact the Xbox LIVE members directly impacted by this change and if this includes you, I encourage you to check your LIVE messages and associated e-mail account over the coming weeks for more details and opportunities. We view you as a partner in this process.

Whitten concluded by promising that the best is yet to come for Xbox LIVE and gamers will “look back on 2010 as a landmark year in gaming and home entertainment.”

MMO Coming To Xbox 360 Because Of Its “Outstanding Online Capabilities.”

monsterhunteronline

During a conference call, a Capcom representative told VideoGamer that, they “decided to offer this title for the Xbox 360 because of this console’s outstanding online game playing capabilities and for other reasons.”

The MMO title Monster Hunter Online will be the first MMO to come to the 360 and should be around in the summer in Japan this year still.
